DNA Interest Group

The UGA DNA Special Interest Group is a UGA member benefit.  We invite you to join us. To register to attend or view recorded sessions, you must be logged in as a UGA member.
DNA SIG format:  Meetings are held on the third Tuesday at 7:00 pm.  Presentations are be delivered virtually and recorded for member viewing. Beginning in 2017, sessions will alternate - with a formal presentation every other month and open questions and answers on alternate months.  
Presenter:  Stephanie Saylor
Stephanie holds a degree in Biology with an emphasis in Neuroscience and has actively worked in research for several years on topics including: Parkinson's disease, toxicity of TCDD, opioid receptors, maternal immune activation and glial cells.  Stephanie has completed several genetic-genealogical-related courses, including the Advanced DNA course at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy and the Advanced DNA Practicum at the Forensic Genealogy Institute.  Presentations and workshops will combine her DNA background with a firm belief in sound research and a love of genealogy.

What DNA Can Teach You

“The path we choose in our research often determines the experience we will have.”   In this beginning class, we will discuss:

· Things you can expect to learn using DNA along with your traditional genealogical research

·  The learning curve for genetic genealogy

·  The different testing sites

·  The basics about how all DNA testing works

·  The different types of DNA tests and why you may want to look into them.

Questions are welcome throughout the presentation and at the end.
